Until a hundred years ago, Herrsching was a little fishing village with only about 400 inhabitants. Today, Herrsching is the biggest community on the eastern shore of Lake Ammersee. The little town profits from a lovely shore with an 8-km promenade along the lake. The sheltered Herrsching bay is a paradise for children and water sportsmen. The water of Lake Ammersee is very clear and clean. In summer, the water temperature mounts over 20°C. Besides the Herrsching bay you can find many bathing places all around the lake as well as quiet spots, where nature lovers will find and unique flora and fauna. The easiest way to discover Lake Ammersee is to take the boat. The Lake Ammersee fleet connects Herrsching with all communities around the lake, like Dießen with its baroque cathedral and monastic buildings. From Herrsching it is only a one hour hike to Andechs monastery. Its baroque church, the famous brewery and beergardens make it one of Germany’s greatest atrractions.
